When does the show run?
The light show runs the day after Thanksgiving to January 1st.
How long does it take to program a song?
It generally takes 6-8 hours per minute. If a song is 5 minutes long it can take 30-40 hours to program that song.
How much does your electric power go up to run the lights?
Not a lot, generally about $20 since most the lights are LED they use 70% less electricity.
Where do you buy your lights for the show?
The lights are RGB LED and are custom made and ordered based on what the need is for the show. RGB stands for red, green, and blue. The combination of red, green, and blue allows for over 16 million different shades of color per light.
What programs do you use to program and run your lights?
Light-o-rama's software and xlights.
When do you start working on your light show for next year?
I usually start planning one year in advance. I have already designed next year's show and I purchase additional lights during the year. I start programming new songs in the summer.
Is it expensive to create a light show?
The startup cost is the largest expense, then depending on what you want to add each years determines the cost.
How many lights do you use?
When the show started in 2009 there were 19,000 single colored lighted and 80 different channels to run the lights. With technology changes and changing the lights to programmable LED lights, each light has over 16 million color variances and has reduced the number of lights needed. This has added a significant amount of more programming time, but makes for a brighter and less cluttered show.
